  • SAFETY & REGULATORY UPDATE

Persimmon is the edible fruit of trees in the genus Diospyros. The word Diospyros means "the fruit of the gods" in ancient Greek. Persimmon is popular in Aisa, Italy, and in parts of the United States. When ripe, the whole persimmon is sweet and slightly tangy with a soft to occasionally fibrous texture. There is an annual Persimmon Festival in Mitchell, Indiana where persimmon based recipes have been celebrated for more than 60 years. The tannin from Persimmon is approved by the FDA as an ingredient in food with limitations for its concentration. The EPA approves the use of persimmon tannin as an inert agent in the dispersal of pesticides for agriculture. The proprietary discovery by Hiroshima University of the powerful antiviral properties of persimmon tannin is new and novel. Persimmon tannin has not been submitted to the EPA for approval for use as an active ingredient in surface disinfectants, nor has it been submitted to the FDA for use as an active ingredient in disinfecting hand soaps. Persimmon and persimmon tannin has a long history of safe use in a wide variety of products, especially in China, Japan, and other Asian countries. Persimmon tannin is used in the manufacture of Sake, in cosmetics as an astringent and as a moistureizer, as a deodorant, as an herbal medicine and super antioxidant, in dyes, and in other applications.

  • MARKETPLACE FORMULATIONS & TESTS

Altan NoroAce surface spray and Altan Noro Hand Soap use our persimmon tannin antiviral technology and are sold in Japan. Click on the video link (above) to see NoroAce in use by the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.

  • The NoroAce formulation has been control tested with and without persimmon tannin. Results show NoroAce with persimmon tannin is effective against human norovirus and every other virus and bacteria tested. NoroAce WITHOUT persimmon tannin does not kill human norovirus, coxaskie virus, or adenovirus, but even without persimmon tannin the NoroAce formulation is effective against feline calicivirus and bacteria. Additional tests compare the efficacy of persimmon tannin with other tannins. Persimmon tannin is the only reagent that has been found effective against human norovirus and all other virues tested. Tests against human norovirus have been conducted using Real Time RT-PCR. Please contact us for additional details and test results.
